Welcome to the 2007 Permian Technology Conference

Technology today is changing at an unbelievable rate and technology in education is changing even faster. Come join us as we explore a high school laptop project just underway and learn some of the possibilities that open source solutions offer the education community today. Open source today means much more than just "free".

Big Spring High School just distributed 1100+ laptops to all their students and staff. Superintendent Michael Downes will lead off the conference with his experience funding such a large undertaking. Linux expert Mike Friesenegger will follow with an industry view on the growth of open source and how you can leverage your existing technology with a strategic use of free and open source offerings.

The morning will conclude with Big Spring Director of Technology Corey Wood discussing the problems and solutions for integrating a Windows network with Apple equipment and software, which is built on and includes open source.

Break-out sessions will be offered in the afternoon on a number of related topics and the day will conclude with a meeting of the Strategic Open Source Special Interest Group (SOS-SIG) of the Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA) that all are welcome to attend.

A Build Your Own Linux Box workshop will run all day for those who would like to bring a server and set it up w/Linux.
